Through, Evergreen’s  one day excursions, you are going to visit historical and archaeological sites , famous places,  important museums towns and villages of Crete.

Unique adventure days out of tourist zones meeting locals and meals in fine local taverns are also organized by Explorer Hellas.


Knossos palace and the museum of Heraklion:

Price:30 E + entrance tickets:10 E. The palace of Knossos, re-discovered by the British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans in 1900. The palace is dated 2000 BC .The excursion takes you straight to the heart of the Minoan civilization in Crete .We visit the most important of the Minoan palaces on Crete, residence of the King Minos and the legendary Minotaur which is associated with a rich tapestry of Greek myth. During the excavations a large number of objects were found and today exposed in the archaeological museum of Heraklion which we will explore in the afternoon.

Jeep safari -Adventure day :

Price: 65 E ( lunch is included). Probably  is not well known, but Crete is an island on which a 4x4 wheel-drives-safaris are still an exciting adventure. The group will have a maximum of 14-16  persons guided by the tour- leader. We cross the  west area of Rethymno , and finish on south coast of Crete. Of course there are some stops on the way  to stretch our legs and take some nice pictures. By lunchtime we arrive in Rodakino beach  where we have  a delicious meal next to the beach. We continue over the unpaved roads to end up on Souda beach where we have time for relaxation, swimming or a cool drink. We drive through Kourtaliotis gorge climbing the mountains again and have beautiful view on the wonderful, wild, impressive nature. This adventure is not a dangerous one and certainly not a survival expedition but a healthy attitude and a good sense of humor are the best ingredients. Est. 10-11 hrs .

Samaria Gorge Long-way- "Do" the adventure!

Price:30 E + entrance 5 E and boat ticket 8.5 E. Samaria gorge is situated within the National park of Samaria.  You will appreciate one of the most spectacular natural beauties of Crete .If you are  are reasonably fit and like walking , do this Samaria - long way.  Dragged you out of your bed rather early, your coach will bring you to the  northern entrance  of the gorge above the Omalos plateau at an altitude of 1100 m. About 16 kms later in Agia Roumeli you will have a meal or a swim into the Libyan sea . This is the end of the gorge where you will catch a small ferry to  Hora-Sfakion cruising along the South coast. Dolphins in tow, alongside or in front as the sun sinks towards the sea is something to experience. Bus is waiting and collect you from Hora-Sfakion. Est. 10-11 Hours. Good walking shoes are recommended.

Samaria Gorge -Easy Way- a ride you will remember !

Price: 27 E + entrance 5 E and boat tickets 14 E. For those of us who simply can't or don't want to walk 16 kms. Evergreen’s coach will bring you to Hora Sfakion, over the white mountains to the Libyan sea.  From here you take a small ferry to Agia Roumeli - the village at the Southern end of the gorge, and from there you can walk into the gorge itself - maybe as far as the Iron Gates, before returning to Agia Roumeli with time for a meal and or a swim in the sea. The ferry returns you to Hora Sfakion and your coach will bring you back to your original departure point.

The Libyan sea breath -Sunset walk on Krioneritis mountain:

Price : 55 E , lunch is included.About 50 minutes away south of Rethymnon town this sunset walk takes you on Krioneritis mountain (1.310 m). This walk take place at an altitude of 1200 m. and lasts  around 4 hrs . The  dramatic scenery and the fantastic sunset  view of the South and North  Seas of Crete will fascinate you.

Imbros Gorge:


Price : 27 E + Entrance ticket 2 E. This gorge is becoming more popular, not just for walkers, as it is much easier than Samaria but still ends at the Libyan sea.  Being only 7 Km long it is also more attractive perhaps to the less hardy among us.

Agios Nikolaos -Elounda -Spinalonga island :


Price : 30 E+ entrance 2 E + boat tickets 7 E. On this excursion , you will visit the eastern part of Crete. Passing by Heraklion , the capital of Crete , we reach the charming little town of Agios Nikolaos lying on the famous lake "Voulismeni" and a small port. Beatifull place with a unique  atmosphere. After visiting the town , our trip continuoes towards Elounda bay. Time for a swim and  lunch before sailing  to the  small island of Spinalonga , just  off coast Elounda.On the island of  Spinalonga housed the last leper colony (opened in 1903) in Europe closing in 1957.  The old Venetian fort and houses previously occupied by a Turkish population which became their homes still stand, now empty. A small walk through Spinalonga colony is an unrepeatable experience.

Cruise to Gramvousa island and "  the blue lagoon " of Balos beach :

Price : 27 E + 12 E boat ticket. This special cruise  departs from the port of Kissamos .After an hour "on board" we reach the "pirates" island of Gramvousa. If you follow the footpath up to the Venetian castle , you will enjoy a panoramic view at 137 m above sea level. The boat sails again to Balos beach ( blue lagoon), a shallow lagoon with  green crystal clear warm water and white coral sand. Lunch on board is possible .

Elafonisi island ‘’ The pearl of the west ‘’:

. Price: 28 E. Travelling through the impressive nature you will enjoy another quite beautiful coastal area with an off-shore island. Elafonisi is a popular tourist area with some rudimentary beach taverns to supply the necessities of life.  The isthmus joining the island to the land is usually covered with water - only a couple of feet deep at worst- and it is quite easy to paddle across.  Supervise the kids.  The water around the island is quite deep enough for good swimmers to enjoy but the water is much colder than the huge shallow bay landward.

One day Cruise to Santorini:

. No other island quite compares with the wild natural beaty of the volcanic island of Santorini. Board for the  mini - cruise northwards over Homer's "wine Dark Sea."  Whether you are on an arranged tour or going solo you have around 6-8 hours to spend on this beautiful Island. Visit Fira town, perched on top of sheer cliffs above the sea far below. Walk through small-whitewashed houses on the narrow winding alleys, to discover the Fira , Imerovigli and the famous for its sunset village Ia .Many reasons have made this island famous globally and most of us have seen a picture of this dream island. Scientists relate this island with mythical Atlantis.Also, Julius Verne has made Santorini famous through his novels "Twenty thousands leagues under the sea" and "The mysterious island".

St.Antonio's ravine:

Price : 55 E ( lunch included) , 40 E lunch not included. One of the most beautifull and best known ravines of Crete, also known as Patsos ravine, named from the village near.it. It is about 35 minutes away from Rethymnon, in the Amari area. The ravine is about 5 kms long and requires about 2 hrs to traverse. A small river  goes  through its bottom and the whole ravine is full of plants and trees.

Rare Cretan wild flowers , giant trees,small water falls, enormous rocks and the small river will fascinate you. You can also admire St.Antonio's very old cave-church and get a taste of the "holy water" which comes out of the enormous rock.

Breath of Africa: Roundtrip on South coast:

Price:27 E .With this excursion you will discover the wild  and romantic south Crete, a part of the island where simultaneously Gods, people and the nature want to prove their perfection. A wild and imposing area , a natural fortress , full of  secrets and exceptional diversity. On the way to the South we cross the famous White Mountains and make our first stop on the green plain of Askifou. It follows a very interesting  drive along the impressive Imbros Gorge and afterwards a nice coffee break at the historical village of Hora Sfakion. From there we continue to the East to visit the legendary Frangokastello fortress , dated from the  14th century. Driving along the South coast we enjoy a beatifull view of the dark -blue Libyan Sea and almost , feel Africa opposite. All the time you have the possibility to take magnificent photographs. For our lunch break we go to the village of Plakias , where also have enough time for a very  refreshing swimming.

4x4 LUXURY JEEP-SAFARI , A GREAT ADVENTURE.

Price: 75 E ( lunch is included). Day begins around 08.45 – 09.00

Departing from Rethymnon we drive southwards  towards Amari valley. We pass  through  magnificent gorges , traditional  villages  discovering the rural life of Crete.  We make  brief stops for our Guests to take photos. We visit the Potamoi dam to admire the artificial lake of Amari.

Back to the Jeeps  and through the mountains we come to to our next stop, the village of Spili. We stop here for coffee. This is village is  famous for  its 25 lion head springs with cold water running all year round. Tourist small shops  sell handcrafts and souvenirs.  We continue through Kerame village and you can see the lacy coast line and the Libyan sea, the Paximadia and Gavdos islands.

After some dusty road we come at Preveli Palm  beach , one of the most beatifull beaches of the island. You can enjoy your swim under the Palm trees in the river water or in the ocean water.

After the swim we get a delicious lunch in the area of Preveli. If we have enough time , we will visit the famous Preveli monastery.

After our lunch we drive through Kotsifou  gorge climbing the mountains again and have beautiful view on the wonderful, wild, impressive nature. Through some  dusty roads we visit the unspoiled villages of central Rethymno and we stop at Argiroupolis springs and the ancient Lappa . We stop for our last coffee sharing the day’s fun and experiences.  Back  to Rethymnon area .
